Mentoring Connections

Mentoring Connections is an ISSofBC community initiative that brings together Vancouver-based professionals (mentors) and skilled immigrants (mentees) from the same professional area.

The goal of our program is to ease the transition of skilled immigrants into the Canadian workforce with the help of an experienced mentor.

Volunteer mentors are not expected or required to find employment for their mentees, but rather to offer career-focused advice and encouragement.

We are always AMAZED at the depth of experience our mentors have, and would like to share their expertise with a larger audience. To do this, we're launching an Ask a Mentor segment on our blog. BC teachers reach out to internationally trained colleagues

“You can’t just stop contributing cold turkey when your whole life has been around making a difference,” says Paul Kjekstad, a recently retired elementary school teacher. After teaching for 33 years in the Coquitlam School District, Kjekstad now volunteers his time mentoring two newcomer teachers at Mentoring Connections. “Having been in the profession for so long, you think you don’t have anything left to share, but you do. You have a lot to share,” adds Kjekstad. [Continue]
