Employment Outreach Services
The Employment Outreach Services program for immigrant and refugee newcomers provides information about BC's job market, guidance and support on settlement related employment issues and connection to the broader Metro Vancouver community.
The program provides:
1. Newcomer orientation to facilitate settlement in Canada
2. One -on-one support meetings with counsellors to:
- Identify needs, barriers and appropriate services
- Conduct local labour market research
- Explore career and job options
- Develop a targeted resume and cover letter
- Learn interviewing techniques
- Learn effective job search strategies
- Assist with job maintenance
3. Group workshops on settlement related employment topics:
- Phases of Adjustment for Newcomers
- Exploring career options
- Occupational information and company research
- Hidden job market and networking
- Computer orientation and Internet literacy
- Resume, cover letter and interview skills
- Canadian workplace culture
4. Employer sessions to meet hiring managers and understand hiring practices
5. Referral and linking to other programs and services in the community
Who Can Apply?
- Naturalized Citizens, Landed Immigrants, Live-in Caregivers, Refugees, Refugee claimants and individuals allowed to remain in Canada and to whom Citizenship and Immigration Canada intends to grant Permanent Resident Status;
- Newcomers who have been in Canada five years or less are given priority
